E32R35T Nagios monitor

A 3.5-inch ESP32-based touchscreen that displays active Nagios problems independently over Wi‑Fi. We did not want another general-purpose dashboard: the goal was a small device that tells you what matters at a glance.

Errors are immediately visible

When an active problem appears, the display switches to full brightness, the red alert header flashes and current issues are shown in a readable list.

Touch navigation

Up to four problems are shown per page. Longer lists can be paged, and tapping an item opens its detailed view.

Healthy-state clock

When there are no active problems, brightness is reduced and the display shows a large clock, the date and the time of the latest successful Nagios check.

Portable Wi‑Fi setup

The device can reconnect to known networks and provides its own Wi‑Fi setup mode at a new location. It can be powered from USB or a power bank.

Dedicated DEMO mode

A long press on the rear button enables a safe demonstration mode using sample host names only. A short press triggers an immediate Nagios refresh.

Focused by design

It is not intended to replace the Nagios web interface. Its job is to make an infrastructure problem impossible to miss at a glance.

How it works

The ESP32 polls a dedicated authenticated monitoring status page every 60 seconds. It builds the active-problem list from the response and handles paging and touch-based details locally. A short press on the rear BOOT button triggers a manual refresh; a long press toggles DEMO mode.

Why we built it

Monitoring is useful only when the information is noticed. A browser tab or a phone notification can easily disappear into everyday work. This small display provides a permanent, dedicated view of infrastructure health without requiring another workstation or a full-size monitor.
